On Feb. 20, the 34 national climbing associations organized under the helm of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) came together for their annual general meeting. It was hosted by the Iran Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation (IMSCF) with the support of the Iran Olympic Committee in Tehran.

The meeting focused on the federation’s wishes to have climbing recognized as an Olympic sport for the 2020 Games in Tokyo. Previous applications have been rejected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).


Delegates came to the conclusion that efforts need to be increased at a national level to improve the respective local infrastructure and create the required momentum for renewed application as an Olympic discipline.
