Low emission zone: What you should know

If you want to drive into the center of Munich, your vehicle needs a green fine dust sticker. The center of the Bavarian capital is designated as an environmental zone. This applies to the entire area within the Mittlerer Ring, a ring road in the city. The Mittlerer Ring itself is not part of the zone. The MOC site, however, is not part of the environmental zone.

Important: The sticker requirement applies to all domestic and foreign cars, buses, motor homes and trucks! A violation of the regulation is punished with 80 Euros.

Where you can buy the green fine dust sticker

You can obtain the fine dust sticker from vehicle registration offices, technical inspection agencies such as TÜV and Dekra, and authorized AU workshops (AU = exhaust emission test). Alternatively, you can order the sticker online.

ISPO Munich is held at the Messe München trade fair center, which is right next to the A94 freeway, just like the Internationales Congress Center München (ICM). You can get to both of these venues by taking either the exit for Feldkirchen-West (Exit 6) or for München-Riem (Exit 5). There is a traffic guidance system in place at the trade fair center, which regulates the flow of traffic and will direct you to the nearest available parking space.

Low emission zone and fine dust sticker

If you are traveling to us by car, please don’t forget that Munich city center is a low emission zone. This applies to the entire area within the “Mittlerer Ring,” which is a ring road around the city center. The “Mittlerer Ring” itself is deemed to be outside of the low emission zone. You may only enter the zone if you have a green emissions sticker, but you will know when you are approaching the area in question as it is signposted. You will not need to enter the low emission zone in order to drive to the Trade Fair Center Messe München.

If you are keen to explore the city before or after your visit to the trade fair or if you are planning to stay at a hotel in the center, you will need to display an emissions sticker. This is a requirement for all cars, buses, RVs, and trucks registered inside and outside of Germany that will be entering the low emission zone. Anyone who does not comply with this regulation will be charged a fine of EUR 80 and will have one penalty point recorded on the Flensburg database of traffic violators.

You can order the sticker conveniently on the Internet using the following links:

The Messe München trade fair center has excellent links with Munich’s public transport system, being served directly by two U-Bahn stations–“Messestadt West” and “Messestadt Ost”. Both stations fall within the inner tariff zone of the Munich Transport and Traffic Association network (MVV). You will need to buy a ticket for one zone if you are traveling from the city center to the trade fair venue (e.g. from Hauptbahnhof).

Trains run on the U-Bahn line between 04:00 and 01:00 and  leave every 5 minutes during peak times on working days.

Please note: The entry ticket price for ISPO Munich does not include any travel on public transport. The only exception to this is if you hold an ISPO Card. For card holders travel by bus or train across the entire MVV network is included on the days the trade fair is on.

Recommendation: We recommend buying an MVV day card –you just need to validate it once and you will be able to travel until 06:00 the next morning, either on your own or as a group.
