Big mouth, more than meets the eye: A dominant force in biathlon, Martin Fourcade wants to significantly expand his gold medal collection at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Alongside the shooting range, the Frenchman is a loving father and social media star.

The big goal of Martin Fourcade: Gold at the Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Here we go again. At a test race in Norway before the Olympic season, Martin Fourcade, who was also a guest at ISPO Munich in 2017, stood on the podium’s top step.

This winter, Fourcade has just one goal: “I want to win a gold medal at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. Before you go mouthing-off saying, ‘I want three golds,’ you have to win the first one.” This belief suits the confident Frenchman, a slick-tongued sharp shooter.

At the 2017 Biathlon World Championships, Fourcade openly criticized the decision to allow Russian Alexander Loginow to participate shortly after his doping ban was lifted. As a result, Loginow and his Russian teammate Anton Schipulin refused to shake hands with Fourcade on the podium as is normally expected.

Achievements:

The dominant biathlete has been seen on the podium more than anywhere else in recent years. Last year, Fourcade won a record 14 times at 26 World Cup starts, while also winning the overall World Cup for the sixth time in a row as well as all the Crystal Globes for the wins in the discipline World Cups.

At the 2017 World Championships in Hochfilzen, he won five medals, only one of which was gold however. Almost disappointing for someone like Fourcade, who is an eleven-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion. Fourcade is the king among the men and therefore the counterpart to German Queen of Biathlon, Laura Dahlmeier.

Martin Fourcade: Loving father and social media star

Alongside his race performances, which are normally out of this world, controversies make Martin Fourcade the biggest star worldwide among biathlon fans. Fourcade hits the right note in everything he does. Sometimes the nature freak posts pictures of dreamy landscapes, sometimes he take selfies with his brother Simon, four years his elder.

Less regularly, there are pictures from his private life with partner Hélène and their two young daughters. Manon has already marveled at her daddy doing his thing at the World Cup in Ruhpolding, while little Marie was born just before the end of last season, as confirmed by Fourcade with a loving tweet.

The superstar also benefits from the interests of his sponsors, such as Rossignol, for whom Fourcade is one of the most important poster boys and where he has his own collection.

Outfitters/sponsors:

Rossignol (skiing outfitter), Adidas, Somfy, BMW, Entremont, MGEN (premium sponsors)

Income:

Fourcade is one of the big earners on the scene. Last winter, he pocketed a record sum of 342,000 euros in prize money alone, and his income at the World Cup totals more than 1.5 million euros to date. His yearly income is estimated to be over a million euros.

In demand online:

Martin Fourcade is not only a good shot – he’s also hard-hitting: At the 2013 World Cup in Le-Grand-Bornand, he hit Sweden’s Fredrik Lindström with his ski stick after they became entangled with one another going uphill. Fourcade was not punished for this.
