REI is a leading outdoor co-op based near Seattle, WA. In 2018, REI launched Product Sustainability Standards that apply to each of the more than 1,000 brands sold at the co-op. The standards outline the co-op’s expectations for how brands manage key environmental, social and animal welfare impacts associated with the products they sell. The Standards also include a list of preferred sustainability attributes that REI encourages brand partners to pursue and highlights to its customers. In this session, Greg Gausewitz – REI’s Product Sustainability Manager – will provide an overview of the Standards and how they were developed and implemented. Attendees will also have a chance to provide input on which topics REI addresses via the Standards in the future.
