Freeride World Tour: All information about the new season

46 athletes are competing on skis and snowboards on the Freeride World Tour in Europe and Canada for the title as the world's best freerider.

With Kristoffer Turdell (men's ski), Victor De Le Rue (men's snowboard), Elisabeth Gerritzen (women's ski) and serial winner Marion Haerty (France), all the defending champions are also back on the grid.

Race calendar: 5 events in Europe and Canada

The 2022 season will take place from late January to early April 2022. After the past season could only be held in Europe, the Freeride World Tour 2022 returns to Canada. The season will close in Verbier, Switzerland. All competitions will be broadcast on www.freerideworldtour.com.

The new format: Cut after third event, then two final events

New in the 2022 season is the format of the two final events: After the third stop in Canada, there will be a cut: only the best 26 riders (12 male skiers, 5 female skiers, 5 male snowboarders, 4 female snowboarders) will qualify for the last two season events, the FWT Finals. The two best results of each participant will be taken into account.

In Fiederbrunn, Austria, all remaining participants will have two runs, of which only the best will be included in the ranking.

In addition, there are more points to be gained in the last two events: The first-place finishers will receive 12,500 points instead of 10,000.

Men's ski:

Here the Swede Kristoffer Turdell is the defending champion. But with Isaac Freeland (USA, champion 2020) and Leo Slemett (France, champion 2017), two other former overall winners are also in the mix.

Women's ski:

Here, too, the reigning winner of snowboarding Freeride World Tour, Elisabeth Gerritzen from Switzerland, is back. She ended the domination of Italy's Arianna Tricomi in 2021 after three titles in a row. Tricomi will also be back again in 2022.

Men's snowboard

Defending champion Victor De Le Rue of France could win the Freeride World Tour title for the third time in 2022, following in the footsteps of his big brother Xavier, who won the competition three times from 2008 to 2010.

Women snowboard:

Marion Haerty is the snowboard queen of the Freeride World Tour. Most recently, she won the title three times in a row, becoming snowboard champion four times in total. Only Austria's Manuela Mandl was able to break the streak in 2018. Mandl will also be back in 2022.
