ISPO Award Winner 2025: The 3-in-1 Smart Layering Kids Down Jacket by Bosideng

In Chinese elementary schools, students typically wear loose-fitting sports uniforms on regular school days. To better meet the needs of the children, Bosideng, a Chinese down specialist, has developed a versatile jacket for the target group of 7- to 12-year-olds. The jacket adapts to the diverse requirements of everyday school life, such as the changing temperatures in classrooms and during outdoor activities, while also looking stylish.

The 3-in-1 Smart Layering Kids Down Jacket consists of two separate jackets that function as an intelligent two-piece layering system. In combination with breathable, elastic knit fabric, it offers great flexibility and comfort.

The outer shell is made of Bosideng's 3-layer Easedefend fabric, which was selected by ISPO Textrends and is equipped with fluorine-free waterproof technology from Rudolf that allows for easy stain removal. The outer shell has a water column of 10,000 mm and is breathable up to 6,000 g/m²/24h.

The inner jacket provides warmth thanks to RDS-certified down. Breathable mesh integrated into the back ensures rapid sweat transport during movement and prevents overheating. To allow children to move freely, breathable stretch material has been incorporated into the shoulders and underarms to improve air circulation further. Designed this way, the inner jacket fits under loose-fitting school uniforms and can be worn at school. For leisure activities, the two jackets can be worn alone or combined.

3M Scotchlite reflective materials on both jackets offer better visibility and a back pocket in the inner jacket provides additional storage space.

All fabrics and trimmings are made from monopolyester materials, which facilitates recycling at the end of the product life cycle.

Children between the ages of seven and twelve are in the middle of their growth phase. During this time, they often grow very quickly in height, while their body circumference develops more slowly. This means that the outer shell, in particular, may need to be replaced with a larger size quickly. To ensure the inner jacket continues to fit the larger outer jacket without needing to be replaced, Bosideng developed an innovative, growth-adaptive, two-way zipper system with TOPFREE+ technology. This system allows the zipper of the inner jacket to be used with two outer layers of different sizes.

When a smaller inner layer is combined with a larger outer layer, Bosideng's patented horizontally stretchable zipper tape uses cross-elasticity to solve fit problems and ensure comfort. Additionally, the down inner layer has an extendable cuff to accommodate arm growth.
