For a few minutes the football world stood still when footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during the European Championship group match against Finland in Copenhagen on 12 June and had to be resuscitated. Eriksen owes his life today only to the quick action of team captain Simon Kjaer and the doctors. It was more than a close call - and UEFA recognised that. The medical staff and Simon Kjaer have now been presented with the UEFA President's Award for their courageous and swift action.t. According to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, all those involved were "true heroes of the European Championship". And Eriksen himself? He's as fit as a fiddle again. A defibrillator should now protect him from further heart problems. He will just have to take a break from playing football for a while.
Actually, Zakia Khudadad and Hossain Rasouli from Afghanistan should have competed at the Paralympics in Tokyo. But the rapid reconquest of Afghanistan by the Taliban prevented the parathletes from starting in Japan. As a sign from afar, the Afghan flag was carried into the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday night at the Games' opening ceremony. Full solidarity for the Afghans living in fear and war! In addition, the first to be allowed into the stadium was the refugee team. We think: A true sign for peace!
