
E-mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular, and manufacturers are shining with innovations. We show the e-Mountainbike trends 2018/2019 in pictures.

The number of engine suppliers is constantly increasing: Munich-based start-up Fazua, for example, relies on its removable drive consisting of an engine and 250-WH battery, which weighs just 3.3 kilograms. The unit used in the E-MTB Focus Raven, for example, can be removed completely at the push of a button.

A startup also drew attention to itself when it comes to tires: With their rubber-free tubing, the Austrians from Tubolito promise less weight than conventional tubing, but double robustness.

The Eddy Current ("eddy current") from Schwalbe does not need a tube at all. Schwalbe's goal: maximum performance under the most difficult conditions. "Such a bike weighs 22 to 25 kilograms, with up to 75 Newton metres of torque almost as high as on a motocross bike. Due to the stronger forces, we have borrowed from trial and motocross tyres, such as the stable studs, more rubber and larger widths," says Carl Kämper, Product Manager MTB tyres.

E-MTB expert Haibike is one of the first companies worldwide to use the new Yamaha PW-SE engine, which is installed in the new Sduro Fullseven LT from the Schweinfurt company.

To ensure that full-suspension e-mountainbikes can also be fitted with carbon belts in the future, the experts from Universal Transmission have presented their spring-supported belt tensioner. However, this will not be available separately, but will initially only be installed in complete e-bikes from cooperation partner Bosch.

Bosch itself is also working on an innovation that e-mountain bikers could like: The company launches the first anti-lock braking system for pedelecs. It was developed on the model of the proven motorcycle ABS. The principle: wheel speed sensors monitor the speed of both wheels. If the front wheel locks during a heavy braking manoeuvre, the E-Bike-ABS intervenes and ensures riding stability. In addition, there is an intelligent rear wheel lift-off control which reduces the probability of rollovers. A tool that could also be useful for E-MTBs at high speeds.
