The ISPO Academy Masterclass has become an integral part of ISPO Munich. With roundabout 30 participants from 13 design schools and universities from 9 countries this year, the Masterclass has successfully developed into a bridge between creative minds, the sports industry and trade since 2016. Nora Kühner, initiator and leader of this project, answered ISPO.com some questions about this year's workshop.

Welche Voraussetzungen müssen Designer in der Sportbekleidungs- und Textilbranche erfüllen.
"ISPO celebrates its 50th birthday in 2020, but prefers to look ahead to the next 50 years", says Nora Kühner.

ISPO.com: What can we expect from the ISPO Academy Masterclass 2020?
Nora Kühner: ISPO celebrates its 50th birthday in 2020, but prefers to look ahead to the next 50 years. We take up this perspective with the design as well: What role will sports play in 2070, will it remain an authentic adventure outdoors in nature? Do sporting experiences now only take place in virtual worlds? How can a sustainable transformation of the industry at the intersection of man, nature and technology be achieved?

What requirements do designers in the sportswear and textile industry have to meet?
Designers in the sports industry need an understanding of function, utility value and technical feasibility. The body in motion is the focus of attention, its performance is supported by functional equipment. New materials and processing technologies shape innovative products and design. The fact that sportswear is worn everywhere today presents us as designers with challenges on the borderline between fashion, function and aesthetics. Personally, I find it very important that designers look closely at people, their requirements and dreams.

„New Sports – wherever. Indoors. Outdoors. Virtual.“ ist von Beginn an zentrales Thema der Masterclass.

Which topics are important when we talk about sports and functional clothing of the future?
"New Sports - wherever. Indoors. Outdoors. Virtual" has been a central theme of the Masterclass from the very beginning. Sport is closely linked to nature, so sustainable and responsible design is essential for me. Climate change and the ever more extreme environmental conditions that go hand in hand with it, as well as progressive urbanisation and digitalization, are clearly the focus of young designers.
