The Adidas Terrex Xperior Hybrid Primeknit Climaproof+ Pants incorporate innovative Primeknit material to match flexibility and protection.
With a 20k water column and 10k breathability, these pants keep you dry in any condition. The stretchy, waterproof Primeknit material is strategically placed, ensuring the right amount of stretch in key areas, and is combined with durable 3L woven fabric. The Adidas Terrex Xperior Hybrid Primeknit Climaproof+ Pants offer the comfort of a soft shell with the protection of a hard shell, setting them apart from traditional waterproof options. All materials used in these pants (3L and Primeknit) feature a waterproof and breathable membrane. The product has a 20k watercolumn and 10k breathability and is windproof. It is also made with recycled materials and has a PFAS-Free DWR.
The big idea behind this product is the placement and integration of Adidas Terrex proprietary Primeknit material, which was also a big hit with the ISPO Award jury, when trying on the pants, also in combination with the also ISPO Award winning jacket. Primeknit’s features lie in the stretch and durability of the material, facilitating unrestricted movement while ensuring waterproof performance.
Years of athlete-driven research have guided its design, utilizing body mapping for targeted flexibility. It is placed it where it is needed most, for example around the knees to allow a greater range of movement when skiing or snowboarding. “Our Xperior Hybrid Primeknit Jacket and Pants are one of a kind in the waterproof breathable product area”, explains Allen Liu, Director Materials Development at Adidas Terrex. “The innovative Primeknit material achieves an extraordinary abrasion resistance, waterproofness, and stretch. It marries the strength of the world of woven and knits. And, they simply look nice! We place Primeknit material strategically at the area where needed to provide optimum experience of wear. We believe our Xperior Hybrid Primeknit jackets and pants will offer the benefits you rarely see in snow apparel.”
Primeknit is warp knitted using a special selection of yarns and a dense construction, making it both highly durable and waterproof. Unlike other waterproof materials, Primeknit is stretchy and quiet, enhancing comfort and usability. In terms of durability, Primeknit surpasses typical knitted fabrics by passing over 100,000 abrasion cycles, a standard usually reserved for woven materials. This durability is crucial for outdoor use, where the fabric must withstand rigorous conditions.
The design process incorporated key elements of Terrex, focusing on carrying, layering, durability, and weight. Body mapping was also used to optimize the fabric’s performance based on data from athletes, ensuring the right amount of stretch and protection in key areas. Overall, Primeknit represents a significant advancement in fabric technology, offering a unique blend of comfort, durability, and waterproof performance.
The combination with a 3L shell fabric is based on popular demand: consumers want to rely on 3L performance but do not want to be restricted by its non-stretch, which is why Primeknit is placed where stretch is needed most. »Get ready for ski season with our Xperior Primeknit Jacket and Pants. It combines waterproof protection with exceptional stretchability for great comfort and performance. Packed with top-notch ski features and a versatile shell construction, it’s perfect for everything from untouched powder to groomed slopes. The perfect companion for your next freeride or winter adventure,« says Lorena Sopp, Adidas Terrex Product Manager. This innovative fabric, described by Sopp, offers the comfort of a soft shell with the protection of a hard shell, setting it apart from traditional waterproof options.
The Adidas Terrex Xperior Hybrid Primeknit Climaproof+ Pant features rich snow-specific details and a sleek design and also transitions seamlessly from slopes to backcountry. Adjustability around the hips, and a bit of elasticity in the back of the waistband make it fit different body types nicely. The pockets are placed a little lower for easier access in the chairlift or when wearing a longer jacket. It also features side opening zippers for ventilation when hiking.
With the launch of its Revived Renewal Series, YKK Corporation introduces innovative solutions to extend the lifespan of textiles and contribute to reducing waste.
The repairability of outdoor textiles plays a central role in the discussion around sustainability within the outdoor industry. Longer usage life and the reuse of finished products are increasingly critical in the outdoor sector. YKK exemplifies how innovation drives sustainability by promoting repairable designs. Through its forward-thinking initiatives, the company sets new benchmarks for reducing textile waste while enhancing product longevity, showing that repairing may be more eco-friendly and also a smarter choice.
Extending the lifespan of textiles is a fundamental pillar for a sustainable future in the fashion and outdoor industry. As Terry Tsukumo, Vice President of YKK Corporation, emphasizes: “With YKK’s Revived Renewal Series, we aim to optimize repair processes and promote a circular economy so that people can wear their favorite clothing items longer.” This vision aligns with global efforts to minimize the environmental impact caused by textile waste.
YKK’s Revived Renewal Series offers an efficient and resource-friendly way to repair damaged zippers. A standout feature of the series is the Revived Replacement Elements for VISLON® zippers, which enable the repair of individual damaged components using a specialized tool, eliminating the need to replace the entire zipper.
The repair process is remarkably simple: when an element breaks off the zipper tape, it can be replaced with a die-cast component. This approach not only saves time but also reduces material consumption by targeting only the defective parts. By streamlining repairs, this method enables repair centers and retailers to work more efficiently while empowering consumers to extend the life of their textiles.
YKK® has developed two key products to make repairs even more accessible:
Revived Replacement Slider: Designed for size 3 coil zippers, this slider can be replaced without the need for special tools, making it suitable for both end users and retailers.
Revived Replacement Elements for VISLON®: These replacement parts allow damaged or missing zipper elements to be fixed without replacing the entire zipper. They are particularly useful for repair shops and outdoor gear specialists.
The simplicity and efficiency of these solutions enhance the repairability of outdoor textiles, contributing significantly to extending their lifespan.
In June 2024, the European Union adopted the Right to Repair Directive, designed to strengthen consumer rights and extend the lifespan of products. This directive obligates manufacturers to provide repair options for specific products when technically feasible and economically viable. Furthermore, spare parts and repair manuals must be made available for a specified period of time.
YKK’s Revived Renewal Series aligns seamlessly with these legal requirements. By offering spare parts such as the Revived Replacement Elements for VISLON® zippers and the Revived Replacement Sliders, YKK® enables easy repair of damaged zippers. This simplifies repair processes for both retailers and end users, contributing to longer product lifecycles.
The EU directive also promotes the circular economy by incentivizing repair over replacement. YKK’s initiatives support these goals by making outdoor textile repairs more accessible, conserving valuable resources in the process. By combining regulatory frameworks with innovative solutions like those from YKK®, a more sustainable consumption model emerges—benefiting both the environment and consumers.
In the outdoor industry, where product durability often determines environmental impact, repair centers play a crucial role in sustainable product strategies. Zippers are among the most common components requiring repair, as industry practice shows. YKK® products make it easier for both retailers and consumers to restore damaged textiles to working condition.
The Revived Renewal Series also introduces self-repair as a practical option. Simple solutions like the Replacement Slider empower end users to fix minor damages themselves—a win-win for consumers and the environment.
YKK® demonstrates that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. By promoting repairable products, the company sets new standards in the outdoor industry and contributes significantly to reducing textile waste. The Revived Renewal Series shows that repairing may be more sustainable and also smarter. It is a Game-Changer for the Outdoor Industry.
The Mammut Eiger Nordwand FL Air Mesh Vest is designed as the initial next-to-skin layer with an open and lightweight construction for dryness, warmth, and great airflow. Even after long hours of exercise, the product does not pick up any moisture, thereby creating a dry and warm cushion of air next to the skin with minimal weight.
The FL Air Mesh Vest works as an initial next-to-skin layer in a layering system to deliver warmth and to keep the skin dry - two main factors in feeling comfortable. »This unique tank top is the ultimate next-to-skin layer for cold weather mountaineering and expeditions, designed to keep you warm and dry on long and cold days in the mountains«, says Alfred Stoppacher, Mammut Eiger & Innovation Lead. The very open and lightweight construction of the material delivers an amazing warmth-to-weight ratio and allows for air to flow. It accelerates breathability and the push of moisture vapor through the system into the next layer.
Being out of 100% Polypropylene, which is a highly hydrophobic and lightweight fiber, the product itself, also after long hours of exercise, does not pick up any moisture, thereby creating a dry and warm barrier next to skin with minimal weight.
Polypropylene is one of the lightest synthetic fibers in existence he thermal conductivity of this substance is lower than that of most synthetic fibers, which means that it is ideally suited for cold weather wear. Comparing the Polartec Alpha, the Polypropylene Alpha is 25% warmer than the Polyester Alpha but with the same weight. Polypropylene is hydrophobic so even after long times of exercise, it does not pick up any moisture, hence, creating a dry and warm layer next to skin.
This tank is therefore a fantastic direct-to-skin piece for breathable warmth and a dry and comfortable feeling as it can pull moisture away from the skin into the next layer while staying dry and warm itself.
The open mesh construction as a baselayer is inspired by one of the very first ascents in the high mountains: During the first ascent of Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were relying on an open string shirt as their base layer, keeping them dry and comfortable throughout their expedition. Inspired by this concept Mammut custom-developed a polypropylene version of the well-known innovative lightweight Polartec Alpha fabric and exelarated the idea of a mesh base layer to the next level in terms of modern material and product development innovations. This makes the Mammut vest a unique piece that will be unforgettable soon in everyone’s kit for extreme environments and high altitudes.
During product testing, Mammut’s athletes really felt the improvement in their layering systems with this specific first layer vest. Being suspicious at first, now they are 100% sold on the product as it keeps them dry and warm in the coldest and most extreme environments, not having to compromise on performance or movement.
The close collaboration with some of the strongest mountaineers in the world ensured honest feedback and rigorous testing, as they need dependable reliable gear under all circumstances that enables them to push the boundaries of the sport. The several prototypes during developing this vest have been tested by Mammut athletes and Swiss mountain guides in snow, ice, and rock from the Bernese Oberland, Valais, Chamonix, Canada to Greenland and finally Pakistan.
The Eiger Nordwand Pro HS Hooded Jacket by Mammut is a high-end performance jacket for weather protection with a focus on longevity and durability.
This hardshell represents the cutting-edge of high-performance jackets made for mountaineering in the harshest conditions. Rugged GORE-TEX Pro 3-layer material with a PFC-free ePE membrane offers outstanding weather protection and abrasion resistance for ambitious mountaineers and alpinists. Design, craftsmanship and repairable features create a more environmentally conscious product with a 34 percent decreased footprint compared to its predecessor. »This is the lighthouse product of our iconic Eiger collection«, says Alfred Stoppacher, Eiger & Innovation Lead at Mammut. »It has been there for 30 years and now in its sixth generation, it more than ever represents the cutting edge of high performance technical hardshell jackets made for mountaineering in the harshest conditions.
»The unique thing about this latest iteration is its dedication to sustainability«, says Stoppacher. During the full design and development process, durability and repairability have been the main topics. »The most sustainable product is still the one that lasts the longest,« The Mammut Eiger & Innovation lead adds. This is also shown in the design choices of the Mammut Eiger Nordwand Pro HS Hooded Jacket: A reduction of bonded elements, partial top-stitching, embroidered logos, and the exclusive use of big zippers and 2 cutlines along the CF zipper will make this jacket last longer, but also steers away from the current look of sleek and bonded styles of hardshells. Mammut’s choice will also impact the way the consumer expects a hardshell to be aesthetically in the future.
Two cutlines along the CF zipper will strongly facilitate the replacement of the zipper in case it does break. A loop webbing at the storm flap as well as waterproof self-adhesive patches, that are delivered with every jacket, enable temporary in-field repair. All these things increase the longevity of the product and make it an even more sustainable choice than before - all while still delivering pinnacle performance for mountaineers and enabling human achievement in extreme environments.
A purpose-built high-reach pattern for unrestricted mobility and a full set of climbing and mountaineering-specific features complete this jacket. The rugged 80d GORE-TEX Pro 3L material with a recycled nylon face, a solution-dyed backer, and of course the new PFC-free ePE membrane technology, make this jacket a go-to, keeping you protected and safe in the mountains while being 100% PFC-free. It is waterproof, windproof, breathable, and highly abrasion-resistant.
Shaped cuffs with hook and loop adjustment and grosgrain tab extension offer improved use when wearing gloves. A dual-sided hem adjustment with custom-designed cord pullers delivers an improved haptic and better functionality when wearing gloves. A RECCO® reflector is featured for improved searchability in emergencies. Two harness-compatible front pockets and two internal mesh dump pockets create enough storage for essential items. A helmet-compatible 3-way adjustable hood with a reinforced peak provides full storm protection while maintaining excellent visibility. The shaped hem and an extended back length also offer enhanced weather protection. The jacket also has underarm ventilation zips and a zip-off snow skirt
Meticulously fine-tuned over 3 decades and thoroughly tested by Mammut athletes, the Eiger Nordwand Pro HS Hooded Jacket is built to enable and protect ambitious mountaineers and alpinists in the most hostile conditions found in big intimidating North faces, from the Alps to the Himalayas. During all three prototype stages of this jacket, it has been tested and optimized in the roughest and most technical environments possible, to make sure it provides uncompromised performance on fit, functionality, durability and protection.
The Mammut Eiger Nordwand Advanced High GTX boot delivers a lightweight and stiff footwear solution with easy entry and a perfect fit for high altitudes.
Ideal for year-round, high-altitude tours, these boots excel in alpine challenges demanding low weight and high performance. »For this boot, we were working very closely with our athletes to enable their best performance in very challenging terrain«, says Lorenza Kessler, Product Manager Footwear at Mammut, explaining a little of the R&D backstory of this all year round, semi-crampon mountaineering boot.
The Vibram Litebase outsole delivers on both fronts, as it is lightweight and offers premium performance, which is why it was also requested by Mammut’s athletes. Meanwhile, GORE-TEX and Schoeller's Soft Gel insulation keep the feet warm and dry. The Ortholite O-Therm Insole adds additional support in keeping the feet warm, even in cold conditions, where an aerogel-infused foam provides an ultimate thermal barrier. Further, this boot includes Mammut’s patented contract control technology: A carbon plate in the PU midsole, that ensures lightweight rigidity. It minimizes weight but enhances stiffness by 20%.
The improved opening enables easy entry, and the BOA® Fit System offers a precise adjustable fit in the Mammut Eiger Nordwand Advanced High GTX. The dial is placed to the side. A zipper also enables a quick replacement of the BOA® Fit System if needed.
The overarching concept of this boot is minimal design for maximal performance. It has - same as the whole Eiger 6 collection - a focus on very durable design with a 100% PFC-free base that is repairable and while materials are used resourcefully in general.
The polyurethane-coated upper over a high-tenacity polyester core makes the shoe highly resistant to traction and abrasion. Woven directly into the fabric, these materials offer exceptional durability. The fact that it is resolable and the zipper can be replaced, enhances its repairability. Also, recycled polyester is used in the upper. The Mammut Eiger Nordwand Advanced High GTX helps to allow high-performing athletes to excel without compromising on lightweight, stiffness, warmth, durability, and repairability, which is also an impressive achievement in the eyes of the ISPO Award jury. The boot is unisex and a trustworthy option to support mountaineers on their mission in cold and challenging environments.
