The Julbo Hailot represents the new generation of multiple-use freeride and mountaineering ski helmets, combining all the protection and features required with an attractive design.
This ski helmet is designed for various situations: Julbo’s Hailot ski helmet aims to balance the mountain and freeride aspects of skiing for the new generation of freeriders. It features a low-profile shell and carefully chosen materials that deliver protection, durability, and lightweight. Thermal regulating plus safety technology such as MIPS and Recco add to its usability and make it the perfect solution for off-piste skiers: it facilitates the ascent and maximizes the joy on the way down. This concept also appealed to the ISPO Award jury when they took a close look at the helmet during their jury meeting. They decided to honor the Hailot with the coveted ISPO Award 2024.
Nicolas Defude, Helmet Product Manager Julbo, explains: “The ambition of the Hailot is to match the needs of the mountaineers and the freeride skiers into one singular helmet. Usually, it’s hard to use ski-touring helmets for other activities due to the two pronounced styles. On the other side, if you use a regular ski helmet in a freeride environment, you will lack all the extras that make your life in climbing easier. So, all the off-the-beaten track skiers will find the solution in the Hailot.”
First of all, the Hailot meets all the requirements of a standard ski helmet. In terms of safety, this meets 3 different certifications: the European (CE EN 1077) and US (ASTM F-2040) ski helmet standards as well as the alpinism helmet mountaineering standard (CE EN 12492). On top of that, the Hailot also features MIPS technology offering rotational protection and RECCO rescue technology helping search & rescue teams find you in case of an avalanche.
“We also worked on the adjustment, we have a 360-fit adjustment system at the back of the helmet, but you can also adjust the helmet in height. So, we make sure that the fit and hold of the helmet is perfect during action”, Nicolas Defude adds. “With a weight of 380g, we managed to balance weight and ventilation. Plus, the global volume of the product was reduced by 5% compared to standard helmets. This makes it less bulky and easier to carry on a backpack, for example. “
Julbo chose materials carefully to combine protection with durability and lightweight. The inner lining of the helmet is done with fast-drying Coolmax fabric and extra-light mesh to ensure good management of heat and sweat during intense activities with a minimized weight.
“The helmet is made to be worn at different weather conditions and different times of the day and it’s prepared to be worn with any piece of equipment you might need on these different occasions,” Nicolas Defude points out. For example, when you have to set off in the dark to climb a mountain and reach the freshies early, you will need a headlamp. The Hailot is equipped with a minimized headlamp kit that will allow you to secure your headlamp separately from your goggles in case you need both. “We also developed a special high-wear storage for the sunglasses, in case you need to stow them away during the ascent, for example when you reach a shadowy spot”, Defude explains.
After weighing up all the pros and cons, the jury decided to award the Julbo Hailot with the ISPO Award 2024. It will be launched in September 2025.
The mey PRFRMNC+ base layer from underwear specialist mey combines two innovative fabric compositions in the front and back of the garment. It has been specially designed for wearing backpacks or avalanche packs.
With the mey PRFRMNC+ base layer, German underwear specialist mey has developed an innovative piece of sportswear that is perfect for all fall/winter sports and especially for those that require the use of a rucksack or avalanche backpack. The base layer is part of the new mey PRFRMNC+ collection.
The PRFRMNC+ base layer from mey combines two different material compositions in the front and back that meet different performance requirements. The so-called "backpack zone" is particularly innovative. The special knitted construction of the backpack zone fabric contains microloops with outstanding moisture management. Thanks to the capillary effect, the material can quickly wick moisture away from the skin to the outside and absorb 2.7 times its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. Once wrung out, the product can immediately absorb the same amount of moisture again. This effectively prevents chilling, especially during breaks. The skin always feels dry, even when sweating profusely.
Thanks to a carefully balanced mix of 48% virgin wool, 48% polyester and 4% elastane, the base layer feels particularly comfortable against the skin.
Other performance features include extra-flat seams, a sporty color selection and an anatomical cut. The functional underwear is certified according to the Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex.
The base layer is manufactured in Europe, while the fabric developed by mey is produced at the headquarters in Germany. Assembly takes place in mey's own factory in Portugal. To save CO2, mey ensures short transport routes.
The mey PRFRMNC+ base layer is available in men's and women's versions and is available here from October 2024.
Ultralight yet durable for ultimate performance, the Mammut Eiger Free 20 is an avalanche pack for backcountry adventures with a removable airbag system.
»Our goal at Mammut is to make the backcountry as safe as possible. A transceiver, a shovel and a probe are mandatory to rescue someone in the event of a full burial. However, an airbag can reduce the risk of this critical situation significantly. However, we often hear, that the airbag is too heavy, too bulky,« explains Alexis Gal, Junior Product Manager Packs & Bags at Mammut. So the brand set out to make an airbag pack for no excuses.
The Eiger Free 20 Removable Airbag 3.0 is ultralight, customizable, and extremely durable for ultimate safety performance and unrestricted movement. In short, it is an airbag pack that is not too heavy or bulky to take on any backcountry mission, even when there are long hikes or the ascent gets steep and technical.
Or in pro athlete and mountain guide Nadine Wallner’s words: »The Eiger Free Airbag is the perfect solution for me to always have an airbag with me! Through several rounds of feedback and field testing, we were able to optimize many useful features for high alpine, technical terrain, as well as easy freeride areas, and develop a lightweight, compact airbag.« Elite athletes, including Nadine Wallner and Jérémie Heitz, helped develop and test this lightweight 1.5 kg airbag backpack. The pack itself is only 470 g on the scales. To get there, the Mammut team used two guidelines: a minimalist approach to reduce as much as possible, as well as innovative fabric with a great balance between strength and lightness.
The pack is customizable and repairable to cater to individual needs on alpine adventures in the backcountry with minimal weight. As the airbag system can be removed as well, the product can also be used for adventures without avalanche danger. With abrasion-resistant, lightweight ULTRA™ fabric and improved longevity, this minimalist pack ensures durability and maximum performance.
The Eiger Hook System offers customizable gear-carrying options for ascents. Specially developed by the Mammut team for this Eiger collection, the aluminium hooks are designed for durability and convenience and are one of the big innovations of this backpack. Aluminum is stronger than a plastic buckle, more durable and capable of supporting a heavier charge. »The hook is very easy to use, even with big gloves«, says Alexis Gal, Junior Product Manager Packs & Bags at Mammut. Combined with the straps, it can be used to attach skis or a snowboard easily in the way you need it. Moreover, the new system lessens the risk of getting snow stuck and blocking the system.
It’s also straightforward to remove and change in case of breakage. This last point is not only true for the hook system but for the backpack and its different features in general. They have indeed been thought out to last, but in case of breakage, they are also made to be changed or fixed easily. »All the features have been designed for durability in harsh alpine conditions. But in case of breakage, they are also easy to fix and repair.« says Gal. While its durability makes the product very reliable when out in extreme conditions, being used for longer, also plays an important role from a sustainable perspective.

The Bærntal one-piece stands out not only for its craftsmanship but also for its emphasis on individual expression. Customers can customize their suit by selecting colors for the hood, pockets, and zippers, making each piece unique. Hofer, a former telemark pro and freerider who extensively tested the one-piece suit himself over four years, recalls: “The first suit had a few small improvements to make, but by the second, it was perfect.” This customization, paired with the loden’s versatility, allows the suit to adapt to a range of winter activities, from skiing and snowboarding to bobsledding, ice fishing, or even après-swim warmth. Sustainability is at the core of the design, with materials sourced within a 150-kilometer radius of Hofer’s hometown. Lodenwalker’s centuries-old expertise ensures that the fabric is both durable and environmentally responsible. Hofer even found an Austrian zipper manufacturer producing in Belgium, further solidifying the suit’s eco-friendly credentials. This dedication to thoughtful production recently earned the Bærntal an ISPO Award. Hofer reflects, "When my mother-in-law and I brainstormed the first prototype a few years ago, I never would have dreamed of this."
The Bærntal one-piece caters to outdoor enthusiasts who value sustainability and functionality. Its all-purpose design makes it suitable for activities like skiing, curling, winter gliding, or even hunting. Former professional athletes, including Skidoo Freerider Wolfgang Hauser, have praised the suit for its warmth and versatility.
