The ‘Future Now: Designing to Disappear’ jacket was created in a collaboration between the luxury outdoor brand Templa, Active Apparel Group and ALLIED Feather + Down. It is designed to biodegrade in a short period of time at the end of its life.
Luxury outdoor brand Templa, performance wear manufacturer Active Apparel Group and down specialist ALLIED Feather + Down have teamed up to create a unique jacket that, unlike conventional synthetic fabrics, will not take centuries to decompose at the end of its useful life.
To prevent plastic waste from polluting our planet forever, the design team used biodegradable materials to develop the jacket. Over 99 per cent of the materials will degrade in an anaerobic environment within five years. The only non-biodegradable element is a small metal part in the zip pull, which ensures that the zip lasts longer.
For the jacket's filling, the designers opted for the natural material down, which is also biodegradable. Sustainably processed recycled down with 800 fill power from US down specialist ALLIED Feather + Down was used.
The jacket was manufactured in a B Corp-certified factory that has been proven to pay a living wage.
The Templa/Active Apparel Group/ALLIED Feather + Down Biodegradable Project is the first collaboration of its kind between raw material suppliers, the manufacturer and designers to develop a fully biodegradable piece of outerwear. This jacket shows that fashion can be created without compromise and is capable of reducing environmental impact. It is intended as proof that we must start designing for the future today.
The unisex down jacket will be available from winter 2025 and is aimed at outdoor enthusiasts who want to look just as good in the mountains as they do in the city.
Crafted with the planet in mind, Kathmandu’s Women’s Seeker Lined 4” Shorts boast innovative materials and finishes, utilizing carbon capture, advanced recycling, and a bio-based anti-odor finish for sustainability and performance.
Iconic New Zealand outdoor brand, Kathmandu, continues to explore how it can incorporate recycled materials into products. As part of its Outdoor Active range, the Women's Seeker Lined 4" Shorts pack a punch crafted from three innovative technologies: carbon capture, advanced recycling, and a bio-based anti-odour finish.
The Women’s Seeker Lined 4” Shorts main fabric features performance-focused, four-way stretch polyester, made with LanzaTech's carbon recycling technology. LanzaTech’s technology captures carbon emissions from steel mills before they enter the atmosphere, converting them into ethanol using fermentation by bacteria. The ethanol is converted into a chemical used to make polyester.
A secondary fabric used to make the shorts is Q-Cycle by Fulgar: a nylon made from recycled plastic waste, including end-of-life car tires.
The citric acid-based Ionic+® Botanical finish eliminates odours.
Designed with meticulous attention to detail, the Kathmandu Women's Seeker Lined 4” Shorts prioritise comfort and confidence in motion. The supportive waistband offers secure storage for essentials, eliminating bounce and providing peace of mind during any activity. Crafted from lightweight fabric with a flattering leg shape and airy inner brief, these shorts deliver a ‘forget you’re wearing it’ comfort.

Discover how circular business models are redefining sustainability and driving economic growth, and why strategies like repair services and rental models are vital for a resilient, resource-efficient future.
As the global community grapples with resource scarcity and environmental challenges, the movement toward a circular economy has emerged as a beacon of hope.
New business models like repair services and product rentals are not only innovative, but economically beneficial when thoughtfully implemented. These approaches align sustainability with profitability, proving that eco-friendly strategies and economic growth can go hand in hand. Studies underscore a tangible shift in consumer behavior, showing a growing trend toward valuing sustainability, durability, and eco-friendly practices. This change supports the economic viability and expansion of circular business models across various sectors (1).
The EU’s Directive on the repair of goods marks a significant step for consumers and sustainability advocates. It requires manufacturers to support product repairability, extending product life and reducing waste. By extending the lifespan of items and facilitating accessible repairs, the EU aims to reduce waste and curb the relentless consumption cycle. An online repair platform set to launch by 2027 will make repairs easier to access, fostering a culture of reuse (2).
Repair, rental, and refurbishment businesses are setting new standards in the circular economy. Repair services breathe new life into existing products, saving resources and providing cost-effective alternatives for consumers. Rentals and leasing arrangements, on the other hand, ensure products are fully utilized without the need for widespread ownership, reducing manufacturing demands and promoting efficient resource use. These models are not only about practicality, but also about reshaping consumer habits and expectations for a more sustainable future (3).
Quality is the foundation of a successful circular economy. Durable, repairable products retain their value and are ideal for repair and resale. High-quality products offer longer lifespans, build brand trust, and meet the expectations of today’s environmentally conscious consumers. At the same time, they strengthen the growing second-hand market (4).
For those eager to see the circular revolution in action, ISPO Munich offers a unique window into the future. The Sustainability Hub showcases four pioneering solutions that exemplify these business models, from repair services to high-quality product designs. Visitors can explore how these strategies are shaping modern commerce.
Embracing new business models and prioritizing quality is indispensable for a sustainable future. This shift promises not only environmental benefits but also a path to resilient, future-ready business practices.
