Breathable weather protection redefined with Polartec® AirCore™

The Polartec® AirCore™ x Montura Ritmo PTC AirCore Hooded Anorak marks the debut of the new high-tech material Polartec® AirCore™ in the outdoor world. The 3-layer material with a nanofiber membrane is non-PFAS and offers both weather protection and extremely high breathability.

More than the external weather conditions, it is the sweat trapped in clothing that impairs athletes' performance and causes discomfort. The Polartec® AirCore™ x Montura Ritmo PTC AirCore Hooded Anorak combines high breathability with water- and wind-repellent performance. The jacket is designed for performance-oriented outdoor athletes, mountaineers, trail runners and is ideal for ski touring and intense outdoor activities.

Polartec® AirCore™: New material technology for maximum comfort

At the heart of the jacket is the new Polartec® AirCore™ material. Polartec® AirCore™ uses a proprietary polymer platform, used for the first time in outdoor clothing, to form a hydrophobic nanofiber membrane through precise electrospinning. The intrinsic water repellency of the polymer eliminates the need for PFAS while providing high durability and flexibility. The nanofiber architecture creates uniform pores that balance air permeability (0.4–1 CFM) and moisture permeability (>25,000 g/m²/24 h), providing optimal breathability and weather protection. The result is dryness and comfort from the inside out.

Sustainability and performance combined

Thanks to its hydrophobic nanofiber membrane, Polartec® AirCore™ does not contain any intentionally added PFAS. In addition, the face and back of the fabrics are made from recycled materials that have been laminated with the nano membrane. This reduces the environmental impact.

Ultrasonically welded seams reduce bulk and chafing and ensure high flexibility, while 2-way stretch fleece inserts on the back, neck, sleeves, and hips improve flexibility and ventilation. Functional details include a fitted hood, multiple mesh pocket system, a half-length front zipper, chest pockets, and an elastic hem.

To match the jacket, Montura has developed the Ritmo PTC AirCore pants for ski touring, which were designed as a fast and versatile alternative to alpine one-piece suits.

What convinced the jury:

  • Polartec AirCore with hydrophobic nanofiber membrane enables high air permeability while providing high weather protection
  • Ultrasonically welded seams, additional ventilation, numerous pockets
  • Non-PFAS and made with recycled face and back, which are combined with non-PFAS membrane and layers.

Statement from Montura:

“With Ritmo PTC Air Core we set out to redefine what a modern ski mountaineering suit can be: light, breathable, and made for those who carve their own line in the mountains. This award tells us we are moving in the right direction.” Daniele Conzatti, Head of Product, Montura

Statement from Polartec:

“At Polartec and Milliken, we are proud to be awarded for the Aircore technology and happy to congratulate Montura for pioneering this product in the Outdoor space. Polartec® AirCore™ is the industry’s first truly air permeable laminate that is 100% free from PFAS-based chemistries and engineered to keep you dry from the inside-out.” Eric Yung, VP Sales and Marketing International, Milliken & Company

What the jury says:

“This jacket is not designed for long periods of continuous rain, but for all other weather conditions during the cooler seasons – thus covering around 90 percent of the typical requirements of athletes. Its focus is on exceptional air permeability and breathability, which prevent moisture and heat from building up in the clothing.” ISPO Award Jury
