The Fischer Quantum Ski Jacket was created to answer a precise need from athletes who want more freedom, better thermoregulation, and protection that adapts rather than restricts. Chief Designer Martti Kellokumpu recalls the very beginning of the project: “When we started developing the Quantum Jacket, we knew we weren’t simply updating an existing solution. The goal was to answer a very real need expressed by high-level skiers.” For Fischer, that meant rethinking the balance between insulation, mobility, and weather protection from the ground up.
At the heart of Quantum is its hybrid construction: insulated 2-layer panels where warmth matters most and 3-layer un-insulated panels in the cuffs, hem, and hood — areas already covered by gloves, pants, and helmets. With this approach the jacket sheds weight, reduces bulk, and maintains consistent performance on long or demanding days. The jacket achieves a 21% weight reduction through a strategic removal of insulation in areas already protected by gloves, pants and helmet—an engineered approach that maintains performance while eliminating unnecessary bulk.
“The starting point was listening to athletes: more freedom of movement, better thermal management, and a structure capable of adapting to changing mountain conditions without compromise”, Kellokumpu explains the design process. Months of field testing helped refine how the materials interact, allowing the team to distribute heat more intelligently and reduce weight while preserving protection.
Former Olympian and product tester Itamar Biran was among the first to experience the difference. “My first feedback to the team was that the jacket ‘moves with you’,” he says. Tested in cold, wind, and technical terrain, his impression remained the same: “You don’t have to adapt to the jacket; the jacket adapts to you.”
This fluidity comes from two core elements: ThinDown insulation, which delivers the warmth of down with less thickness and better thermal consistency, and 20k/20k Evotexx fabric. Evotexx is a technology developed by VIST Group, Fischer’s alpine skiwear exclusive global licensee, and used to meet the technical standards required by Fischer to provide dependable waterproof performance without sacrificing breathability. Together, these technologies keep heat stable, disperse moisture efficiently, and help maintain comfort across changing effort levels.
For VIST Group Quantum represents more than a new jacket as it marks a directional shift. “Quantum Jacket marks an important step for VIST Group and for our collaboration with Fischer,” says Luca Tomat, Head of Global Sales and Marketing. “It is the outcome of continuous dialogue between design, material research, and field testing, with the ambition to define a standard that did not previously exist in our segment.”
Tomat sees Quantum as the beginning of something larger: “We see it as the first chapter of a new generation of products—skiwear designed for those who live the mountain in all its complexity, requiring protection and lightness, technical precision and adaptability. The ”hybrid revolution” is about to start!”
The jacket is constructed using recycled polyester fabrics and uses a PFC-free water-repellent treatment, without perfluorinated compounds. ThinDown insulation minimizes volume and material usage, supporting resource efficiency while providing outstanding thermal performance. Long-lasting fabric selection and rigorous quality controls ensure durability, encouraging longer product life and more responsible consumption.
