Mercedes-Benz Expands Surf Sponsorship Surfing “Matches Perfectly with the Brand’s Zeitgeist”
Mercedes-Benz expands its sponsorship of national surfing events. The Stuttgart-based car manufacturer is the new title sponsor of the kite surfing World Cup in Fehmarn. As in the previous year, Mercedes Benz is also the title sponsor of the SUP World Cup in Scharbeutz and the windsurfing World Cup in Sylt.

Also, big-wave surfer Sebastian Steudtner will be supported as a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz. The car manufacturer justifies its increased commitment to the surfing sport as “the brand’s venture into modernity, progressivity and dynamics”, as Georg Abel, head of Sales Service Mercedes-Benz Cars Deutschland worded it to “Sponsor News”.
Mercedes-Vans as watersport companion
“The brand Mercedes-Benz is constantly developing and is finding new ways to communicate”, says Georg Abel. “The sports like wind and kite surfing as well as stand up paddling are a perfect match with Mercedes and the brand’s zeitgeist, because both connect the passion for dynamics, innovation and the aspiration for top performance.”
Every now and then, 200,000 visitors will flock to the surfing competitions – they will be informed about the newest car developments there. “The V-class and Marco Polo are the two vans that we have in the program and they are the ideal companions for water sports, leisure time and holidays”, says Jochen Dimter, business manager for Transporters and Vans in Mercedes-Benz Sales.
Mercedes-Benz in Sport Sponsorship
Mercedes-Benz is particularly engaged in sport sponsorship with football (e.g. the German national team, VfB Stuttgart, Junior Cup), tennis (e.g. ATP Tournament in Stuttgart), golf (e.g. The Masters, Ryder Cup, After Work Golf Cup), car racing (e.g. Formula 1, DTM) and equestrian sports (e.g. CHIO Aachen).
In October 2016, Mercedes-Benz signed Germany’s triathlon star Jan Frodeno as a brand ambassador. Mercedes also runs a cost-intensive charity project with the Laureus World Sports Award.
