13 eighth graders hike from Oberstdorf to Merano

Crossing the Alps for 13 students thanks to #itsgreatoutoutthere initiative

A group of young people has crossed the Alps on foot thanks to the #itsgreatoutthere initiative. The 13 pupils of the Friedrich-Junge-Schule in Großhansdorf wandered from Oberstdorf to Merano in their "My Challenge" project in ten days.

The #itsgreatoutthere initiative fulfils the wishes of non-profit organisations for an outdoor experience. 13 pupils of the Friedrich-Junge-Schule in Großhansdorf were thus allowed to cross the Alps in 10 days, a hike from Oberstdorf to Merano. The campaign was supported by Primaloft and The North Face.

#itsgreatoutthere-wishes can be fulfilled for people of all origins and ages - but the focus is on ideas that give young people access to outdoor activities for the first time. Especially if the young people come from urban areas. The projects range from 1000 to 5000 euros.

„Memories that they will always cherish"

Andrew Denton, Secretary General of the It’s great out there coalition says: “We were delighted to be able to support the My Challenge project with an #itsgreatoutthere grant.  It ticked all of the right boxes. It is clear from the photos and report that the children took home memories that they will always cherish, and I hope that their experience in the Alps was the start of a lifelong love affair with the outdoors.”
