The final in Verbier is the highlight of the season where the four world champions in ski and snowboard will be chosen. Topstars of the scene such as skier Lorraine Huber from Austria and the current world champion in snowboarding Sammy Luebke from the USA have made it to the final.
The whole competition in Verbier will be broadcast live on www.freerideworldtour.com from 1-9 April. Locally, viewers can follow the events live on the slopes from Col des Gentianes. In Verbier itself, public live concerts, après-ski activities and autograph sessions will be taking place throughout the whole weekend.
Verbier is a historical place for the Freeride World Tour: 22 years ago the first event was held here by Nicolas Hale-Woods, the Freeride World Tour founder.
Freeride World Tour Expands to Asia
Winter sports are a trend in Asia. In China especially the market is growing rapidly. The Freeride World Tour wants to benefit from this too and expand to Asia. The first event took place in Japan where there are already versatile areas with good snow conditions. In the future FWT events should also take place in China. The first one is planned for 2018. You can read an interview with the CEO Hale-Woods here where he discusses how the business model will look.
