The app, called “Surfline Scout Report,” will be supplied with data linked to a tracker mounted on the surfboard. Select surfers will report from their surf spots as data suppliers in “near real time,” transmitting facts like number of waves per hour, paddle distance, water temperature, and much more. The app is to be free and the data will be accessible for all users.
Surfing data collectors have to have a certain level of surfing skill, and be able to show a minimum number of surf session per month. The goal for Trace, which was founded by surfers, scientists, and mathematicians, is to prepare data and information for surf spots all over the world.
