Benedikt Mayr, though better known by the world as Bene, came into the world on March 14th, 1989 in Munich. However, he grew up in Innsbruck. His parents had a cabin in Zillertal, where Mayr first stood on skis at the early age of three. Today, he is one the best freeriders in the world.

Munich native Bene Mayr would have also been able to start for Austria, as his father comes from Linz: that said, he chose the German Ski Association.

Mayr lives in Innsbruck, where he's part-owner at the concept store Hitt und Söhne. Not only that, the 27-year-old has also invested in the Schorsch Bar in Munich and the tattoo studio "Ich und meine Katze" by rapper Sido. When Mayr is on the piste, he uses skis by the brand "Melt," of which he's also a part-owner.

Bene Mayr began his career as a mogul skier, but at age 16 he tore his cruciate ligament. After that, he changed to the halfpipe in slopestyle. After participating for the German Ski Association in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, he shifted to freeriding. Mayr says that several injuries had disrupted him and the physical strain of jumping had become too great. Besides participating in the Olympics, Mayr's greatest successes were the awards of European Rider of the Year 2010 and Freeskier of the Year 2008, 2010, and 2012.

Next to the piste, Bene Mayr most likes to listen to 80s, classic rock, hip-hop, and electro. He's now also shot an independent film titled "Legs of Steel."
