Worrying events around the world overshadowed the last few days and left little room for bright spots. We have decided to present you our weekly Good News from ISPO.com anyway. Because good things are still happening that are worth reporting. Because they are forward-looking for our society and for sports. And simply bring joy. This time with a large portion of diversity, an Upper Bavarian anniversary, the world's longest solar bike path and the grand gesture of an Olympic champion.

Commonwealth Games under Female Leadership for the First Time

The Commonwealth Games Federation has appointed Katie Sadleir as CEO of the international sporting event for the first time. The 57-year-old New Zealander competed in the 1986 Commonwealth Games herself, winning bronze as a swimmer. She has been driving female competition as manager at World Rugby since 2016 and will replace her predecessor David Grevemberg as Commonwealth Games CEO from November. "I am beside myself with joy to be taking on this role," Sadleir says. The world's third biggest sporting event will be held in Birmingham next year.

The Paralympics Are More Diverse than Ever Before

At least 23 non-binary athletes will take part in this year's Summer Paralypics in Tokyo - more than twice as many as in Rio 2016. A record! It is believed that the number of participants from the LGBTQI community is even higher and many hope that the list(https://www.outsports.com/2021/8/16/22623849/lgbtq-paralympics-out-athletes-tokyo) will grow in the coming days. But already now the official numbers are a really great sign for the positive development for more tolerance and diversity in sports.

Meindl & Gore Celebrate 40th Anniversary

40 years ago, the first mountain boot from the Upper Bavarian manufacturer Meindl was presented at ISPO: A lightweight, waterproof outdoor model thanks to the innovative GORE-TEX material, which is just as stable as the partnership between the two companies. In the course of their collaboration, they developed many success stories in the outdoor and footwear industry: from the classic "Meindl Trailer" for extended hikes to the super lightweight all-rounder "Aruba GTX". To be continued!

The Most Beautiful Bundesliga Jersey Comes from Freiburg

It's been decided: The most beautiful Bundesliga jerseys of the season come from Freiburg. The sports channel Sky had called for a vote on Instagram: The most likes decided the victory. In the final, the fans initially only saw red, then the striped design of SC Freiburg clearly prevailed against the straight striped competition from FC Bayern Munich. Hopefully the triumph will also rub off on the goal tally!

Sustainable Sponsoring at the Beach Cup of the Hamburg Volleyball Team

The label INASKA supported the Beach Cup tournament on August 7 with attractive prizes: Sustainable swimwear and sportswear, made exclusively from nylon recycled from fishing nets and other plastic waste. Managing director Franziska Hannig is a passionate beach volleyball player herself and enjoys sponsoring top German teams with their sustainable range. We think: A great signal for more environmental awareness in competitive sports!

On the Bike into the Future

In Maartensdijk near Utrecht in the Netherlands, the world's longest solar bicycle path was opened last Wednesday. On a stretch of 330 meters, not only the bicycle traffic flows now, but also green electricity, because solar cells actually pave the entire path. The pilot project thus combines two important measures in the fight against climate change: emission-free mobility and green energy generation.

Olympic Champion Auctions Medal for Good Cause

The 25-year-old javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk from Poland has auctioned off her Olympic silver medal to help a young child with a serious heart condition.
