Nike is launching a new jersey for the NBA season 2017/18: A built-in NFC chip is used to provide fans with app content for their stars on the smartphone.

Content from NBA stars such as Tristan Thompson (with ball) will also be played out using NFC technology in the future.

NikeConnect is the new technology that will bring current content from NBA fans to their stars on their smartphones - using NFC technology in their fan jerseys. By means of a near-field communication chip in the new connected jersey, buyers have the opportunity to use an app to continuously play new content such as pre-game videos, highlights or music playlists.

The jerseys will be available worldwide from 29 September. Nike hopes that this will help it to keep its customers even closer to the sport and brand. “In our new connected era, Nike will lead with products that build a relationship with our consumers,” said Trevor Edwards, President, Nike Brand. “With NikeConnect, we deliver to basketball fans everywhere the personal and premium experiences we know they love.”
