Modell’s has already been in discussion as a candidate for taking over the stores since the application for creditor protection of Sports Authority. As early as February 2016 the traditional company The Sports Authority could no longer pay its liabilities. In March 2016 the company, which has been active in retail since 1919, finally had to declare insolvency. The takeover of the stores could put money in the tills once again, in order to at least partially compensate the creditors. The Sports Authority has reportedly already received goods on consignment from 161 suppliers.
JD Sports and Modell’s wish to take over The Sports Authority stores
The U.S. retailer The Sports Authority has probably found buyers for around 200 of its 450 branches in the United States. As the Wall Street Journal reports, the British sports retailer JD Sports and the U.S. sporting goods retailer Modell’s Sporting Goods show interest in the branches.
