At first glance the IPO by NOW Snowboarding looks like an ordinary snowboard binding. At a closer look, many new details become obvious, turning the binding into a global innovation, according to inventor and pro rider JF Pelchat. Instead of a conventional sole plate this binding features a moveable platform tipping the foot towards the front or back during the natural turn sequence. Similar to the motion on a skateboard the rider transmits energy directly to the board’s edges from the toes or heel; in conventional bindings, the sole plate is bent and a part of the energy is lost. IPO is attached to rubber pads on its four corners, thus ensuring proper energy transmission, and acting as shock absorbers at the same time. The new technology of the IPO binding is slated to not only provide a distinctive riding experience but also prevent soreness and cramps.
