The Tyrolian region of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis received the “Best Ski Resort 2012″ award this week, following a survey put out by Mountain Management Consulting every two years. The Swiss resorts of Saas Fee and Aletsch-Arena ranked #2 and #3, respectively. The survey involved some 40,000 winter sports enthusiasts during the last winter season. The authors of the report see their work as the biggest and most representative of its kind in the alpine region. The top ten are: 1. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis (Austria), 2. Saas Fee (Switzerland), 3. Aletsch-Arena (Switzerland), 4. Zermatt (Switzerland), 5. Schladming (Austria), 6. Lech Zürs (Austria), 7. Kronplatz (Italy), 8. Arosa (Switzerland), 9. Ischgl (Austria), 10. Gröden/Val Gardena (Italy). The participants in the survey evaluated the quality of the resorts in different categories such as accommodation, transportation, friendliness, safety on the slope and many others. The authors had an explanation for the fact that no French resort made it into the top ten: French resorts are mainly visited by Frenchmen who, according to the report, tend to have higher expectations than skiers from other countries.
