Black Diamond has reached an agreement to take over Poc Sweden, the maker of protective gear for ski and action sports enthusiasts, which has grown rapidly in the last years with its distinctive and award-winning design. Established only eight years ago, the Swedish company continued to expand in the fiscal year until the end of April, with a sales increase of nearly 35 percent to the equivalent of $22.5 million. Black Diamond has agreed to buy Poc for about $43.5 million in shares and cash. It has also committed another $12.5 million in long-term, performance-based incentives for Poc’s managers over six and a half years. While Black Diamond should help to support Poc’s expansion, the Swedish company said that it would retain much of its independence, operating as a subsidiary of Black Diamond based in Stockholm.
