Munich not only shows its sporty face when it comes to the international sports trade show ISPO. The Bavarian capital has a lot to offer, like soccer at its best with FC Bayern, surfing in the English Garden – even in winter – or indoor climbing halls that will make every mountaineer’s heart beat faster.

In a three-part series we are introducing “Munich’s sports sites”; locations where you can exploit your body and soul before and after the trade show – it’s not only important to speak about sports but also to do sports! The first part of the series introduces indoor pools...

Michaelibad

This indoor pool is not far from the trade show and perfectly suited for early birds. Opening its doors at 7.30 in the morning, you can swim your lengths nearly alone for two and a half hours in the 25meter long pool. Whirlpool, steam bath and a sauna area offer great relaxation after training.

Michaelibad, Heinrich-Wieland-Straße 24, 81735 München
Opening hours: daily from 7.30 am to 11 pm
Public transport: U5 and U7, city bus 195, 199 (Michaelibad)

Müller’sches Volksbad

This Art Nouveau indoor pool has been an institution since 1901. Ambitious athletes can swim their lengths in the big pool that is 31 meters long and has a water temperature of 27 degrees. The second pool is a bit shorter (18 meters) and warmer (30 degrees). The sauna and other spa activities are accessible at an extra charge.

Bad Giesing Harlaching

Next to the training site of the FC Bayern you can swim and – with a bit of luck – watch Thomas Müller & Co. during their training at the same time. In the 25meter pool one length is exclusively assigned to competitive swimmers. In a separate pool courses like Aqua Jogging, Aqua Fitness and water gymnastics can be joined at an extra charge.

Bad Giesing-Harlaching, Klausener Straße 22, 81547 München
Opening hours: Saturday to Monday from 8 am to 6 pm, Tuesday to Friday from 8 am to 9 pm
Public transport: U1, city bus 147, MVV bus 220 (St.-Quirin-Platz) / tram 15, 25 (Kurzstraße)

Westbad

The 25meter sports pool offers ambitious swimmers separate lengths. In the non-swimmer pool courses like Aqua Power and water gymnastics further train the body. Special highlight: The hot outdoor pool that is enriched with natural brine and features jacuzzi beds and massage jets.

Westbad, Weinbergerstraße 11, 81241 München
Opening hours: daily from 7.30 am to 11 pm
Public transport: metro bus 57 (Westbad)

Olympia-Schwimmhalle

Includes five pools and one diving platform. In the 50meter sports pool three lengths are assigned to athletic swimmers. If you prefer swimming at a lower pace we recommend the training or the non-swimmer pool. The diving platform has something to offer for anyone: from a 1meter diving board to a 10meter tower. Last but not least is the 20sqm whirlpool, with two massage jets; a huge sauna area and a specific regeneration pool provide relaxation for body and soul.

Dante-Winter-Warmfreibad

What about a swim under the stars? With a water temperature of 34 degrees the 50meter outdoor pool turns into a giant steam bath when outdoor temperatures drop below zero. Ambitious swimmers can use two separate lengths. Next to it you find a second pool (22 x 22 m) with massage jets and a huge water mushroom to recover body and mind.
