The multi-channel retailer SportScheck, headquartered in Munich in Germany, has finally confirmed the closure of its branch in Essen. The contract that will expire in January 2017 will not be extended.

This is the ultimate end for the sportswear specialists, after an end in Essen was already considered for the start of 2016. Then, as now, the closure was discussed along economic grounds. The store was claimed to be too large at 5,500 square meters and thereby “not economically successful.”

After this, SportScheck still has 19 branches in Germany, whereby the store areas here still range between 2,000 and 5,000 square meters. Only the branch in Reutlingen is somewhat smaller, at 1,500 square meters.
