Italian mountaineering company Salewa has announced a new setup for its business in China. Effective from now, it will cooperate with Tutwo, the large outdoor retailer and wholesaler from Xiamen.

Tutwo operates more than 1,000 points of sale around the country and counts about 1,200 independent retail customers. The companies have sealed a license and distribution agreement for China.

Salewa has been in the market since 2012, through a joint venture called Salewa Trading Beijing. The Italian group admitted that this setup, which ran up to 67 own stores for a while, did not reach Chinese mountaineering and outdoor customers consistently.

Effective January, Salewa appointed Claes Broqvist as new exec in charge of brand and business development in Asia. Previously, Broqvist directed sales at Odlo and Haglöfs, respectively, for many years.
